Eating and the Holidays—Easy Tips to Still Have Fun
We can all read about how we need to still count calories, eat fruit instead of candy but come on, it's the holidays right? Even I know we are not going to be 100% during the time, and yes that includes me. So I have come up with some ways to "be as good as you want to be" without popping out of your pants and feeling depressed come January 1st.
80/20 rule: This is a rule I give all my patients during the entire year. If you can be good 80% of the time you can be bad 20%. Just don't do it in the opposite way.
Desserts: If you are doing to have desserts do it ideally at lunch time. Stay away from carbs after 6pm. It's more likely to be stored as fat. Share: Let's say you are going to one of the 100 cocktail parties you are invited to. Bring your significant other or friend and share a plate. That way you can enjoy the chocolate covered strawberries, but you only have 2 instead of 10.
Enzymes: If you know you are going over the top at a restaurant or event I would highly suggest you take digestive enzymes, which will cut down on the bloating, acid reflux and tired feeling afterwards. Take 2-3 Zypan per meal which you can get from our office.
Vino: What are the holidays without alcohol? If there is one that tends to be over enjoyed during this time, this is it. While I am not saying you can go out a drink the night away, if you are going to have some drinks, proper liver detoxification is essential. Taking 2 Livco by MediHerb (also available in our office) before and after you drink will do wonders. You will sleep better, not feel as exhausted (especially if it's a weekday event) and you won't harm your body as much. Drink plenty of water before you go to sleep to prevent dehydration as well.
Workouts: Hopefully you are doing some form of working out during the week. If so, increase your workout time by 15-20 minutes each day. It won't completely cancel out your night before but it will definitely help prevent the bulge.
Balance, Balance, Balance: Don't go to all 10 events in one week. It will cause havoc to your body and trust me, you won't like yourself afterwards. Check out to see the events you really want to participate in and do one, maybe two, per week.
Follow these guidelines and call us for any recommended supplementation. And as always be safe, respect yourself and others and enjoy this wonderful time of year!.

Latest Testing in Breast Cancer Detection
Because of all the talk about cancer, especially breast cancer in the news, I thought I would share some incredible technology that can be more senstitive than mammograms and not nearly as uncomfortable. I am not saying to this instead of mammograms. That is your decision, however I would at least recommend doing both. Check out this site. www.thermography.com

Best Nutrition Site
If I could give out only one nutrition site, here it is. Nothing about fad diets, etc. This is a non-profit organization trying to get the truth about about nutrition--based on research regarding how we are designed and what we should eat. I think you will be surprised on what it says we can eat.

The Truth about Liver Detox
I have tons of patients asking me all the time about how to properly detoxify the liver. There are MANY misconceptions and to be honest it drives me nuts. Most of what is out there is NONSENSE. So let's try to make this as clear as possible.
Starvation or pure liquid detoxing usually does not work and can also be harmful (i.e. master cleanse, only vegetable juicing, etc). Why?
Your body needs tons of different nutrients (yes much more the cayenne pepper, lemon, and maple syrup) and if your body doesn't get it (one of the most important is protein), you can get sicker during the process (which is usually misinterpreted as a "good detoxification").
Yes can you feel horrible during the first few days making you really question if its worth it, yes. But if you do it with a licensed professional who knows what they are doing, then you will be fine. You won't be happy during the entire process, but you will love the end result (weight loss, better skin, better energy, mood, etc).
I recommend a few different ones...designed with the biological understanding of how our body works. The best one I have seen is from Standard Process (www.standardproces.com). It's only sold through health care professionals and we do have it in our office. Next is a homeopathic one be HEEL which is also in our office. Both last around 3 weeks along with diet modification. Feel free to call the office for more details.
Questions, comments, some new detox you have heard about? Let me know.
